A Word From Our Director

Welcome to ISSEA Basketball 2022!

A very warm welcome to our ISSEA athletics, coaches, and supporters. ISK is thrilled to welcome you back onto campus and we are grateful for the energy, comradery, and normalcy you bring with you! I am confident that this will feel like a family reunion you actually are looking forward to attending.

Experiences such as these stay with us for years to come. The connections you make with fellow athletes from all ISSEA schools will have deep and lasting effects. I guarantee you that in the future, after high school, you will run into one another, reconnect and reminisce. I am confident that the memories made over the next few days will be ones of support; healthy competition and rivalry; friendship and celebration.

I am grateful for all of the hard work that has gone into organizing and running this event. An enormous thank you to Will Moore, Felix Onchera and Trizah Kiarii for all of their blood, sweat, and cheers over the past several months. Thank you too to Theo Fernandes, Michael Muli and their crews for all of their logistical support. And finally, thank you to the teams and their supporters for the incredible spirit and the breath of fresh air you have brought with you!

Karibuni ISK!

Sincerely,
Mr. Michael Callan

Karibuni ISSEA Basketball 2022!

What is ISSEA? League. Network. Partnership. Community. A few words jump to mind, none quite capturing the special, unique nature of ISSEA. For some of you, this may be your first ISSEA and you might be wondering what the big deal is. For me, I first became aware of ISSEA in 2000, the year ISSEA itself was launched and the year I joined ISK. Since then, I’ve watched ISSEA grow from the perspective of a teacher, parent, and principal - more schools involved, the inspired inclusion of areas such as the creative arts, and the recent commitment of so many to find a way forward during the pandemic.

When it comes to sports and competitions such as ISSEA Basketball, one thing that has never changed is the way ISSEA students and coaches proudly represent their schools and compete to win. Moreover, ISSEA athletes fully commit to fair play, cheer for other teams, and make new friends amid hard-fought competition. Many alumni from our schools remain friends long after high school, ISSEA the platform for that lasting relationship. I suspect that looking across the court we see something of ourselves in each other, understanding that at ISSEA we are safe to try our very best, we reach out a helping hand, we are kind to others who may face disappointment, and we find success in our time together no matter the result of any given game … much like a Family really.

May you feel most welcome at the International School of Kenya for ISSEA Basketball 2022, and may this ISSEA experience be a special moment in your education and life.

Sincerely,
Dr. Robert Blanchard

Welcome Athletes and Coaches!

We have waited ten long years to host ISSEA Basketball, so it is with much pride and honour that we once again have this opportunity to celebrate this wonderful event.

The renewal of on-site ISSEA events has meant so much this semester, once again igniting spirit, friendship and competition through the eight countries across our African sports and activities conference.

The best of luck to all the ISSEA teams as we look forward to strong competition, fair play and a platform to create wonderful memories here in Nairobi!

Sincerely,
Will Moore
